Omega Nu presents beer event
WATSONVILLE — Omega Nu will present “For the Love of Beer” on Feb. 9 from 1-5 p.m. at Elkhorn Slough Brewing Company, 65 Hangar Way, Suite D in Watsonville.
The event will include a “beer triathlon” and corn hole tournament. Admission is $40 per team for one event, or $60 per team for both events.
Ate3One and Ballesteros Catering Company will provide the food. Raffle baskets will also be available.

Retired Teachers Association to hold luncheon
APTOS — California Retired Teachers Association Area V Division 7 will hold a luncheon on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Seacliff Inn, 6500 Old Dominion Court in Aptos.
The guest speaker will be Kathleen McBurney, director of Timeslips, who will talk about ways to help with memory loss.
The menu is chicken gran mariner or spinach and ricotta ravioli.

County Human Services phone center changing hours
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — The Santa Cruz County Department of Human Services Phone Customer Service Center is changing its hours of operation.
Starting today, the Phone Customer Service Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Walk-in hours remain the same, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Market Street Theater to present ‘Love Through the Ages’
SANTA CRUZ — “Love Through the Ages,” a musical show looking back at classic love songs, will be performed Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Market Street Theater, 222 Market St. in Santa Cruz.
Jan and Marc Bryant are the directors of a cast of all-Santa Cruz County performers.

Mount Madonna School to host documentary screenings on college prep tests
SANTA CRUZ — Mount Madonna School will host public screenings of the film “The Test and The Art of Thinking” in Santa Cruz (Feb. 7) and Morgan Hill (Feb. 28), offering a look at the multibillion-dollar business of SAT/ACT Test Preparation.
Each year more than three million high school students take the SAT or ACT, the college entrance exams required by most four-year colleges in the United States.
In “The Test & the Art of Thinking,” filmmaker Michael Arlen Davis examines these tests through interviews with students, parents, counselors, test-prep professionals and academics, to provide a look at how it reflects issues in the educational system and society.
Mount Madonna School is hosting the film screenings, to be followed by facilitated discussions.
“I am dedicated to helping high school students navigate the college application process,” said MMS Director of Upper School Shannon Kelly. “It is such an exciting time in their lives, and I want students to explore the many options available to them. Although many schools are becoming test-optional, the majority of colleges still require SAT or ACT scores. It is frustrating to see how much time and money families spend preparing for the SAT/ACT, and how much anxiety these tests produce in students.”
The documentary will be screened Feb. 7 at the Resource Center for Nonviolence, 612 Ocean St. in Santa Cruz; and Feb. 28 at the Community Playhouse in Morgan Hill.

Law enforcement job expo scheduled
SANTA CRUZ — The Police, Sheriff and Security Job Expo will be held Feb. 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente Arena, 140 Front St. in Santa Cruz.
Watsonville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies will have recruiters on hand to meet one-on-one with aspiring police officers. The expo will also include workshops and live demonstrations.
Attendees are advised to bring a résumé.
