Engineers host egg drop contest

WATSONVILLE — In celebration of National Engineers Week, Watsonville city engineers will host their 16th annual egg drop contest on Wednesday.

The contest is open to all ages.

Registration begins at 3 p.m. in the alley between the Civic Plaza at 275 Main St. and the Post Office. The library will host a reception onsite with cookies and juice after the contest.

Contestants will design and build a package that is able to protect a raw egg from a 60-foot drop off the sixth floor of the parking garage at the Civic Plaza. Past participants have included city staff, Watsonville High School students from MESA (Mathematics Engineering & Science Achievement) Club, children from the city’s Environmental Science Workshop, and members of the public.

National Engineers Week, or Eweek, is held the third week in February each year. It is a celebration of the impact engineers make in the world and sparks interest in the field by bringing engineering to life for students, educators and parents. For information, visit www.DiscoverE.org.
