Elkhorn Slough Brewing Company celebrating two years
WATSONVILLE — Elkhorn Slough Brewing Company, 65 Hangar Way, Suite D, in Watsonville, will celebrate its second anniversary on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
The event includes new, cellared and specialty one-of-a-kind beers. Attendees will receive a four-ounce Elkhorn Slough Tasting Glass, a four-ounce pour of each new beer, and a small plate designed to complement each beer by Ate3one. Live music will be performed by James Murray.

Cooking club meets at library
WATSONVILLE — A new cooking club will meet monthly at the Watsonville Public Library beginning Jan. 25.
The first meeting will be a traditional American buffet-style potluck. Attendees are asked to bring any kind of dish, recipe, main course or side they would like to share. Table settings will be provided, but bring a serving utensil for your dish.
Throughout the year, attendees will have the opportunity to meet guest speakers who will share their journey in the world of food.
The club will meet the fourth Thursday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Main Library Meeting Room, 275 Main St.

Youth Strings Music Program begins spring semester
APTOS — Registration for the Cabrillo Youth Strings Music Program is underway.
An entry level string orchestra class, “4th-6th Grade Beginning Strings,” for violin, viola and cello will be offered on Fridays from 4-5:15 p.m. at Cabrillo College’s Aptos campus, 6500 Soquel Drive, room VAPA 5137. Students must provide their own instruments.
Auditions for “Festival Strings” (beginning note-readers), taking place in room VAPA5156, and “Cabrillo Strings” (intermediate-advanced), VAPA 5141, will be held on Jan. 26 from 3:45-4:15 p.m., with rehearsals on Fridays from 4:15-5:45 p.m. (Festival) and 4:15-5:55 p.m. (Cabrillo Strings) at the Music Building, VAPA 5000.
String players ages 5 to 18 are welcome to join the private lesson and string orchestral programs.

Alzheimer’s Association presenting workshop
SANTA CRUZ — The Alzheimer’s Association will present “The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease” on Jan. 25 from 1-2:30 p.m. at 1777-A Capitola Road in Santa Cruz.
The workshop is for anyone who would like to know more about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Attendees will learn about symptoms and effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia, how Alzheimer’s affects the brain, causes and risk factors, how to find out if it’s Alzheimer’s disease, the benefits of early detection, how to address a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, treatment and more.
There is no charge for this workshop, however, donations are appreciated.

Pacific Collegiate School seeks board members
SANTA CRUZ — The Pacific Collegiate School (PCS) Board of Directors is looking for two individuals interested in applying for board service: one general board member and the Parent Volunteer Association Chair.
The board is responsible for ensuring that PCS continues to meet the goals of its stated mission and vision by providing financial, strategic and policy governance. Applicants should understand that the board is a working, actively engaged body that meets regularly.
The ideal PVA candidate will be a leader, with experience and skills in volunteer coordination, event planning and community building. Additionally, they must understand and honor fiduciary duties, direct and manage the PVA and its activities, actively support school culture and activities, think strategically and with vision, effectively communicate, generously give time and brainpower, and fully embrace public charter school education.
The deadline to submit an application and related documents is Friday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. All application documents must be submitted as PDF files. Interviews for selected candidates will be held on the afternoon/evening of Monday, March 12.
