Airport receives federal grant

WATSONVILLE — Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) announced that three airports on the central coast of California have received federal grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.

Watsonville Municipal Airport received $295,200, Mesa Del Rey received $334,606 and Salinas Municipal received $82,581. Specifically, the federal grants will be used for runway improvements and rehabilitation.

“These grants are important investments in our region’s transportation infrastructure, creating jobs and ensuring safe passage for all cargo and pilots,” Panetta said. “Making sure our airports are fully operative is essential for the success of our agriculture industry and popular international airshows.”

County Clerk offering Watsonville office hours

WATSONVILLE — The County Clerk will hold its monthly office hours in Watsonville on June 14 for people who are applying for passports, marriage licenses, or fictitious business names; getting married; being sworn in as a Deputy Commissioner of Marriage; obtaining a health officer verification; or registering as a notary.

The hours are from 7:50 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the City Clerk’s Office located at 275 Main St., fourth floor (sixth floor of the parking garage). To make an appointment, call 454-2060.

The County Clerk offers office hours in Watsonville one Wednesday each month in an effort to make clerk services more accessible for South County residents.

“Offering our services to our South County residents at a nearby location is a great service for those who would otherwise have to make a special trip to the County Government Center in Santa Cruz to have their wedding ceremony, apply for a passport or file a fictitious business name,” County Clerk Gail Pellerin said.

Sons of Italy announces scholarship winners

WATSONVILLE — Sons of Italy Watsonville Lodge #2016 announced the recipients of their 2017 scholarships at the May meeting. 

The students are of Italian heritage and graduating from high schools in Santa Cruz County.  

Graduates receiving the Earl and Naomi Van Dusen Scholarships are Charles Bailey, Soquel High School and Allison Paul, Scotts Valley High School. The Sons of Italy Watsonville Lodge #2016 Scholarship recipients are Kiegan Lee, Aptos High School, Luca DiGrazia, Aptos High School and Giulianna Castillo, Watsonville High School.

The students have also been invited to attend the annual Bob Moresco Chicken BBQ on July 16 at the Corralitos Padres Hall.

Follies holding pancake breakfast

SANTA CRUZ — A benefit pancake breakfast will be held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Sunday at 222 Market St. in Santa Cruz.

Cost of the breakfast is $7 for adults, $3 for children under age 10.

Proceeds will benefit Santa Cruz Follies, a local performing arts group for “over 50” Santa Cruz County citizens.
