Forum addresses equity and gender
WATSONVILLE — Cabrillo College will hold a forum titled “Equity, Gender & Politics” Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Watsonville City Council Chambers, 275 Main St., fourth floor.
The panelists will include Assemblywoman Anna Caballero, students Ella Carroll and Nery Garcia and others.
Questions from the audience will follow the presentation.

Dog training classes begin soon
WATSONVILLE — The Monterey Bay Dog Training Club will hold classes beginning Tuesday in Watsonville and Thursday in Capitola.
Class sessions are eight weeks long and are held at two locations:
• Tuesday nights: Crosetti Building at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds, 2601 East Lake Ave., Watsonville
• Thursday evenings: Mid-County Senior Center, 829 Bay Ave., Capitola

Events lined up for World Migratory Bird Day
WATSONVILLE — Watsonville Wetlands Watch will present World Migratory Bird Day on May 12.
A bird walk will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on the paved trail system on upper Struve Slough. The tour, led by Jeff Caplan, director of Common Language for Nature Connection, is both bilingual and wheelchair accessible. Participants will meet at the trail head located at the parking lot below Body Zone, 1810 Main St. in Watsonville.
An encore presentation of Seraphina Landgrebe’s “Ospreys of Harkins Slough” photo-journal presentation will take place from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Fitz Wetlands Educational Resource Center, 500 Harkins Slough Road.

Aromas Grange hosts election forum
AROMAS — The Aromas Grange and League of Women Voters are sponsoring an election forum on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the grange, 400 Rose Ave.
At 2 p.m., California State Propositions 68 through 72 will be discussed. At 3 p.m., Monterey County Board of Supervisor District 2 incumbent John Phillips will face off in a forum with challenger Regina Gage.
The audience will have the opportunity to submit questions for the propositions and candidates’ forum.
Following the forum at 4 p.m., attendees will have the opportunity to meet candidates from a number of area elections.

Rib Cook-off returns
SAN JUAN BAUTISTA — Big black smoky grills will be lining the streets of downtown San Juan Bautista for the annual Rib Cook-off on Saturday and Sunday.
Eight teams from three western states will be barbecuing more than 8,000 pounds of ribs.
Along with professional rib teams, Backyard BBQ is inviting amateur grill masters to compete on Saturday in this new division.
Art and crafts booths, pony rides, along with live music on the main stage will round out the event’s festivities.
The event, taking place on Third Street in San Juan Bautista, offers free admission and parking. Event times on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
