APTOS—The Community Foundation Santa Cruz County recently announced that David Doolin has been appointed president of the board of the organization.  

Doolin has been with Petrinovich Pugh & Company, LLP since 1992 and a partner since 1997. He is responsible for providing audit and tax services for closely-held businesses, their owners and their families. He joined the Community Foundation’s board in 2015 and also serves on the boards of Hospice of Santa Cruz County and Kuumbwa Jazz.

The foundation also announced the addition of Chris Murphy to the Board of Trustees. 

Murphy is in his fifth season as the President of the Santa Cruz Warriors, the NBA G League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors. 

Latino Role Models Conference Returns

APTOS—The 10th annual Latino Role Models conference returns to Cabrillo College’s Crocker Theater Feb. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

The conference is free and lunch will be provided. Students in sixth grade through college and their parents/guardians are encouraged to attend this conference featuring Latino professionals to inspire students to achieve their dreams for college and career. 

The conference will be conducted in Spanish with English translation via headsets. 

The keynote speaker will be Reyna Grande, award-winning author of the bestselling memoir, The Distance Between Us, where she writes about her life before and after she arrived in the U.S. from Mexico as an undocumented child immigrant. Grande was the first person in her family to attend college, obtaining a B.A. in creative writing and film and video from the UC Santa Cruz, and a Master’s in creative writing from Antioch University.  

Each student who attends will receive a copy of her book.

Leadership changes at Monarch Services

WATSONVILLE—Jasmine Nájera was recently elected as board president of Monarch Services. 

Also, Doug Fischer and Amy Ivey were named vice president and treasurer, respectively. 

Nájera will replace former Board President Angela Kline and assume her responsibilities as board chair. Additionally, Laura Segura will officially resume her role as executive director after surviving a 54-week battle with breast cancer, while Kalyne Foster-Renda transitions from interim executive director to associate director. 

Watsonville Coast Produce announces new VP of Operations

WATSONVILLE—Watsonville Coast Produce recently announced long time buyer and partner, John Burkett, has retired and Jerud Manfre has been promoted to V.P. of Operations and Adrian Contreras to Sales Manager. 

Manfre, son of owner Gary Manfre, has worked at WCPI since he was 15, washing trucks on weekends. He worked his way up from pulling orders on nights, to driver and most recently buyer.
