WATSONVILLE — Thousands of people lined Main Street in downtown Watsonville on the Fourth of July during the annual Spirit of Watsonville parade.

While Aptos threw on its annual short parade, about 1,600 people took part in the march along Main Street that started at St. Patrick’s Church and worked its way along Main Street to the plaza.

“It’s about honor to be here supporting our community,” said Jesse Palmeyin. “Being here today is just a good way to give back and say I care. We’re out here to support Jacob’s Heart and to help add to that need of people that need help — it’s based on family principles, and to me, that’s what counts.”

Maverick Lowe of Washington showed up with an American flag in tow.

“I want to show support for our troops because these are the people that — for one reason — we are safely here as Americans,” he said “It feels good to give support to these people and what makes me proud to be an American.”
