Watsonville coronavirus

Roughly 17 percent of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in Santa Cruz County have been hospitalized, according to data released by Santa Cruz County officials on Wednesday.

There were 54 confirmed cases in the county as of late Tuesday. Nine of those county residents spent time in the hospital after contracting the highly-infectious virus.

The vast majority of cases (41) were in people ages 18-64. One case was in a minor—17 years or younger.

County officials also said there have been 794 negative lab results.

Neighboring Monterey County as of Wednesday had 48 confirmed cases, including nine hospitalizations and two deaths.

STATE

Across the state there were 8,155 cases and 171 deaths as of Wednesday, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Roughly 5,000 of those cases required hospitalization and 1,416 were in the intensive care unit.

NATION

The number of cases in the U.S. were nearing 200,000, according to the numbers provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday.
