SANTA CRUZ — Dena Maniotes Dejon Culbertson died peacefully in her sleep of heart failure on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. She was 78.

Born in East Chicago, Indiana to Greek immigrants on Oct. 4, 1938, She loved school, obtained a bachelor’s degree at Roosevelt University, and migrated to California where she lived the rest of her life. She worked as a teacher, social worker, and employment counselor. She spent a great deal of time with her grandchildren and volunteered with the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church of Santa Cruz.

She is survived by her son, Robert Culbertson (Nicole); three grandchildren; sister, Helen Lekas; brother, Nick Maniotes; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services have been scheduled to commemorate her life on Sept. 12 at Santa Cruz Memorial Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz; viewing from 5-7 p.m. Trisagion 7-8 p.m. Funeral Service, Sept. 13. Funeral Service and luncheon at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 223 Church St., Santa Cruz, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
