Paloma Ramirez had 16 points and seven rebounds, Mackenzie Tellez added 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals and Monte Vista Christian completed its dominant showing in the Don & Martha Price Christmas Classic with a 74-41 win over Valley Christian-Roseville in the tournament final on Saturday in Watsonville.

M.V.C. (11-2) beat Watsonville, 60-32, on Thursday, and thumped San Lorenzo Valley, 61-23, on Friday to earn a spot in its own tournament’s championship game.

Tellez, a sophomore point guard, was named to the all-tournament team. She had nine points, six assists and four steals against Watsonville (4-8), and dropped 13 points and five steals against S.L.V. (4-9).




Shafter beat S.L.V. in the third-place game.

Riding the powerful play of senior point guard Jayleen Solorzano, Pajaro Valley won the consolation final, 56-36, over St. Francis to take fifth in the tournament. Solorzano had 31 points, nine rebounds and five steals in the victory over the Sharks (4-7), and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Solorzano also recorded 20 points, eight rebounds and eight steals in the Grizzlies’ (8-4) 48-34 win over The King’s Academy on Friday to shake off Thursday’s loss to Shafter (9-5).




Watsonville (4-8), meanwhile, lost in the seventh-place game to T.K.A. (3-10).

BOYS

Valley Christian-San Jose beat The King’s Academy, 65-60, in the boys’ bracket of the Don & Martha Price Christmas Classic on Saturday.




Host Monte Vista Christian finished fourth, falling to Arroyo, 80-44, in the third-place game.

Woodside Priory beat San Lorenzo Valley in the fifth-place contest, and North Monterey County edged Averroes for seventh place.

Valley Christian (9-1) beat N.M.C. (6-7) and Arroyo (12-1) to advance to the final. 

T.K.A. (5-5), meanwhile, cruised by S.L.V. (1-12) and M.V.C. (4-8) for its spot in the championship.

M.V.C. senior forward Andrew Lee was named to the all-tournament team.
