National Student-Athlete Day, celebrated annually on April 6, encourages others to support the student-athletes in their lives in all of their endeavors, goals and aspirations while recognizing (and celebrating) their accomplishments.
To further celebrate their efforts, Driscoll’s and the Pajaro Valley Sports Foundation (PVSF) are teaming up to support the creation of sports fields in the greater Watsonville area.
The international berry giant this week will match Driscoll’s employee donations to PVSF up to a total of $50,000.
The donations will go to the PVSF’s ongoing renovation of the Freedom Elementary School field.
The PVSF has two years to raise $300,000 dollars for that project. Funds are collected by Watsonville Rotary, a nonprofit organization, and are tax deductible for contributors.
PVSF’s ultimate goal, besides rebuilding community fields, is to build a sports complex in the Watsonville/Pajaro area to host tournaments and encourage an active lifestyle for the community.
The complex would be able to host many different sports, including soccer. The Foundation is currently in search of a 60-120 acre location large enough to accommodate the complex.
