Watsonville Certified Farmer’s Market manager Jesus Madrigal was recognized at a Feb. 10 City Council meeting with a framed proclamation handed to him by Mayor Kristal Salcedo. 

In addition to his work at the market, Madrigal also oversees the operation at Pinto Lake City Park as a contractor for the city. 

Salcedo pointed out that Madrigal “has been a dedicated leader and partner for the city of Watsonville investing his time and resources to strengthen community connections and public events. He has played a key role in enhancing Pinto Lake City Park through acute advocacy and programming, making it a welcoming and family friendly space.” 

She added that Madrigal’s work at the Farmer’s Market has “expanded access to fresh foods and supported local vendors.”

Madrial said he got started as a sophomore at Watsonville High School where he volunteered  at the Farmers Market in 2000 and as of 2014 took over managing the entire market. 

“It’s nice to be recognized,” he said. “It helps a person keep going; this means a lot to me.

 I like what I do and helping people makes me happy.” 

Years ago, Madrigal  helped create Main Street Enterprise, which allowed him to help with Pinto Lake events, the Strawberry Festival and other city happenings.
