WATSONVILLE A Watsonville gang member armed with an assault rifle is back in jail after officers served a high-risk search warrant Wednesday morning.

Miguel Narez, 24, was arrested at about 7 a.m. outside of a residence on Green Meadow Drive.

According to Watsonville Police Sgt. Mish Radich, police found a duffle bag in an attic space containing a rifle.

Narez has two prior felony convictions for previous cases, one of which was a shooting.

He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail. He was not in custody Thursday morning, jail records showed.

“We go to great lengths to take as many guns off the street as we can,” Radich said. “This is just one of many guns taken out of a potentially dangerous person’s hands.”

Watsonville Fire, Santa Cruz Police and AMR for helped with the arrest.
