APTOS — A fire in Seascape Beach Resort Monday was sparked when a guest used rubbing alcohol to clean a marijuana pipe, not by an illegal hash oil lab, as firefighters initially said, said Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Cleveland.

The call of a fire in room 21 of the upscale resort came at 1:09 p.m. The blaze was quickly extinguished, but emergency personnel asked for law enforcement support and an ambulance.
