Fire scorches house in Watsonville mobile home park

WATSONVILLE—A home was badly damaged after a fire broke out late Saturday at a mobile home park in Watsonville.

According to the Santa Cruz County Fire Dispatch website, a fire was reported on the 100 block of Pera Drive inside the Rancho Cerritos Mobile Home Park at 10:47pm.

Watsonville Fire Battalion Chief Kirt Vojvoda said firefighters managed to keep the blaze from spreading into surrounding homes. He said just before midnight that crews were still searching the charred single-wide home for possible victims. 

The fire sent a towering column of black and brown smoke into the night sky. Groups of residents stood by watching firefighters battle the blaze.
