CHAMP Amesti Elementary School student Kevin Bonita hoists the turkey he won Thursday for winning all five years of the school’s Turkey Trot.

Amesti Elementary School fifth-grader Kevin Bonita on Thursday took home more than a free 18-pound turkey when he won the school’s annual Turkey Trot race.

He also has the distinction of being the first to win the race every year he attended the school.

A young man of few words, Kevin said he felt “good” about his win, and that he’s considering joining the track-and-field and cross-country teams when he attends Lakeview Middle School next year. He is also quarterback for the Junior Catz football team.

Kevin’s father, also named Kevin Bonita, said the race “wasn’t even close.”

“It was so cool…his friends and classmates and all the other kids of the school were cheering,” Bonita said in a text message.
