Quinn Cook had 24 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, Michael Gbinije added 21 points and the Santa Cruz Warriors cruised to a 111-82 win over the Wisconsin Herd on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Santa Cruz (2-2) jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter behind Cook’s 12 points and four rebounds and would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the night.
The Herd (2-1) pulled within four in the second quarter after Xavier Munford knocked down a 3-pointer but the Warriors closed the half on a 23-4 run, which was capped off by Cleanthony Early’s 3 with 3.8 seconds left in the half.
The Warriors exploded in the third quarter, outscoring the Herd 32-13 and scoring 12 buckets off nine assists.
Santa Cruz will complete its weekend back-to-back on Saturday against former head coach Casey Hill and the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario at 7 p.m.
