At the midway point of the season, the Santa Cruz Warriors are right where they want to be.
Winners of their last three by 10 points or more, the Warriors are in first place in the G League’s Pacific division at 15-10. They hold a half-game lead over South Bay Lakers heading into this week’s G League Showcase at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, the home of the Raptors 905.
Santa Cruz, which has struggled staying healthy this season, grabbed the second-best record in the Western Conference with a 116-102 victory over the Greensboro Swarm on Saturday.
Two-way player Quinn Cook continued his strong season by flirting with a triple-double. He finished with 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Warriors dominated the glass, outrebounding the Swarm 55-40. Damian Jones (14 points and 10 rebounds), Damion Lee (14 and 11) and Winston Shepard (17 and 12) all recorded double-doubles in the win.
Jones, currently on assignment from Golden State, also had five assists and a pair of blocks.
Georges Niang added 21 points, five assists and two steals, while Alex Hamilton chipped in 11 points, five assists, three boards and three steals.
All nine players that saw action scored and grabbed at least one rebound for the Warriors.
Terrence Jones, an NBA veteran and former first-round pick who the Warriors picked up late last month, did not play because of a shoulder injury.
The Warriors were also without the services of Michael Gbinije, C.J. Wilcox, Najeal Young and Chris Boucher, who has yet to see the floor this season while he recovers from a torn ACL suffered during his final year at the University of Oregon.
Santa Cruz will kickoff G League Showcase on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. against the Grand Rapids Drive. They play the Raptors 905 the following morning at 9 a.m.
Their first game will be broadcasted on NBAtv and the second will be on ESPNU.
