George J. Kovacich passed away at Montecito Manor on April 5, 2018.  He was 94.  A native of Pucisce, Croatia, George was born December 30, 1923, to Gabriel and Vinka Kovacich.  He immigrated to the Pajaro Valley in 1961.

George was a cook at the Miramar Grill for 30 years.  He was a hard-working man who lived a full life.  George and Lucy both loved gardening and grew many varieties of beautiful orchids along their vegetable garden.  He loved to BBQ for family gatherings.  His greatest joy was traveling to visit his family in Croatia, which he and Lucy did 13 times.

George leaves his wife of 60 years, Lucy; sister, Marija Martinic of Pucisce, Croatia; and numerous relatives in Watsonville and Croatia.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Katia Radic, and brothers, Jerko Radic and Ante Kovacich.

Lucy wishes to send a special thank you to all the staff at Montecito Manor and Hospice of Santa Cruz County for all the wonderful care they gave George.

A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at Our Lady Help of Christians  (Valley Catholic Church). The Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery. 

Donations are preferred to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Dr., Scotts Valley, Ca 95066, or National Federation of the Blind, 200 East Wells St., Baltimore, MD 21230.   Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements.
