A 30-year-old Greenfield man died in a head-on crash on Highway 1 late Wednesday night.

Julieta Trenado of the California Highway Patrol said the victim, who has not been identified, was driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes at 11:35 p.m. in a 2013 Dodge Dart. Trenado said the man, had two female passengers ages 25 and 27 of Greenfield, was driving south of Vista Point at a high speed when he crashed into a 2006 Ford Mustang driven by a 35-year-old Palo Alto man, who had a 47-year-old Watsonville male passenger.

Trenado said the Mustang driver was unable to avoid a head-on collision with the Dodge.

The Mustang occupants and the Dodge passengers all suffered major injuries. The Dodge driver was rushed to Watsonville Community Hospital where he later died.

Alcohol and/or drugs appear to have been a factor in the collision, Trenado said.

The collision is still under investigation
