A community project helped spruce up Hazelwood Park Mural on July 27 as part of the ongoing Watsonville Community Mural Paint Day.

Organized by Paul De Worken of Monterey Bay Murals, the one-day day event drew around 50 volunteers to Hazelwood Park, located at 297b Herman Ave., for seven hours of painting and community engagement.

With support from the City of Watsonville, the project is a fraction of the web of murals around the city and area schools pushed forward by Watsonville Community Mural Paint Day.

The mural included artwork by Carrasco Concepts, Josue Leonor and Mateo Gonzalez.

“We are in our 5th official year of being active painting murals; this is the first time we held two events in one year. We are excited to keep this momentum going,” De Worken said.

De Worken got help in hosting the event by City Parks Commissioners Fabian Leonor of District 3.

De Worken  said there are a few more community mural events in the works, including a new mural Ramsay Skate Park.
