WATSONVILLE — The Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust will reopen its search for its next executive director due to an “unexpected turn of events” in the recruitment process, according to the organization.

According to Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson, chairperson of the PVCHT’s Board of Directors, the Executive Committee led a thorough recruitment process beginning in August, assisted by a professional consultant, select board members, and two community representatives.

The process resulted in a viable candidate for the executive director role, and the candidate accepted an offer to take on the role, effective January.

However, shortly after the verbal acceptance of the offer, a tragic event in the individual’s life prompted the individual to retract the acceptance of the position, according to Kalantari-Johnson.

The Executive Committee will re-open the executive director recruitment the week of Dec. 17.

In the meantime, the Executive Committee extended an offer for incumbent CEO Caitlin Brune to serve in an Acting CEO capacity from January through March, which she accepted. In this interim leadership capacity, Brune will continue to provide day-to-day oversight of programs and operations.

In August, Brune announced that she will be resigning her position after two years at the helm.

“I love this community — the dignity, generosity and strength of its hardworking people, its connectedness, and the grace and grit that make it so distinctive,” she said at the time. “I also believe deeply in the staff, mission and purpose of this organization, and the potential for the Health Trust to facilitate progress toward health equity.”
