High-powered rifles, cannabis seized in Bonny Doon

BONNY DOON—The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office confiscated an unusually large amount of cannabis and 16 rifles Tuesday at home in Bonny Doon.

Santa Cruz County spokesman Jason Hoppin said Sheriff’s Office personnel assigned to the Cannabis Licensing Office served a criminal search warrant at a residence on the 200 block of Sunlit Lane.

Deputies found an unlicensed cannabis operation that included 424 cannabis plants under cultivation, 43.6 pounds of processed cannabis and 16 rifles in various forms of assembly.

“It appeared the suspect was also manufacturing high-power, semi-automatic rifles,” Hoppin said. “One rifle was outfitted with a silencer.”

The case will be forwarded to the County District Attorney’s Office, Hoppin said.
