The Pajaronian High School Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 17-23:

Hunter Matys, Aptos High 

Mariners’ senior quarterback ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-20 PCAL-Gabilan win over San Benito High on Sept. 21.

Layla Ruiz, Watsonville High

Wildcatz’s sophomore cross country runner set the PCAL course record at Toro Park in Salinas by finishing first in Cypress division Center Meet No. 1 in 19 minutes, 22 seconds.
