APTOS—The Aptos High football team is showing no signs of slowing down after rolling to its third straight victory Friday.

The Mariners (3-0) routed Watsonville High in a 55-0 Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League win at Trevin Dilfer Field.

Senior running back Andrew Manning recorded three touchdowns in the first half, and Aptos cruised to its first shutout victory this season.

The win also extends Aptos’ win streak in SCCAL action to 35 straight games. The streak dates back to the 2011 season. The Mariners rolled through the league for six straight championships before moving to the Pacific Coast Athletic League in 2017.

Junior running back Seamus Carey scored a 7-yard touchdown late in the first quarter that extended Aptos’ lead to 21-0.

The Mariners fumbled thrice on handoffs, including one that was lost deep in Wildcatz’s territory just before going into halftime.

The turnovers only slowed them down for a time.

A group of seniors took over the Mariners’ offense as they continued to roll in the second half, beginning with a 45-yard touchdown reception by Andrew Fernandez.

Kai Mockus also got his turn, as he sprinted past the defense for a 70-yard for a touchdown. Christian Mendoza scored from 12 yards out, and Adam Candelario recorded a nine-yard touchdown to cap it off.

The win gave Mariners coach Randy Blankenship his 293rd career victory. Aptos plays at Santa Cruz on April 16 at 7:30pm.
