St. Francis High continued its hot start to the season on Friday night with a 47-0 non-league blowout of the California School for the Deaf Eagles at Santa Cruz High.
The shutout victory is the Sharks’ (2-0) second of the season and marks the first time in program history the team has kicked off a season with back-to-back shutouts.
The St. Francis defense allowed only 46 yards, while the offense totaled 419 yards, with all-but nine coming on the ground.
Ten backs touched the ball for the Sharks. Junior running back Devin Mcleod led the way with 164 yards rushing and two scores. Fellow junior Andy O’rourke also scored a pair of touchdowns while running for 117 yards. Seniors Carson Cuzick and Derric Estrada-Haro and junior Aaron Soto also scored a rushing touchdown for St. Francis, which travels to Milwaukie, Oregon on Friday to play La Salle at 7:30 p.m.
Abel Martinez, Andrew Seymour and Josh Kovacs all made interceptions.
• M.V.C. 42, N.M.C. 7 – The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs improved to 2-0 with a 42-7 non-league drubbing of the North Monterey County High Condors on Friday night in Watsonville.
Senior quarterback Sean White tossed five touchdown passes for M.V.C. (2-0), which has won 12 straight preseason games dating back to 2014.
Junior receiver Nick Bautista caught four of White’s scored and senior receiver David Alcantar hauled in the fifth.
Konan Van Lear scored N.M.C.’s first touchdown of the season in the first quarter to give the Condors (0-2) the early lead but it was all M.V.C. after.
The Mustangs play at Scotts Valley High on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The Condors will try to pick up their first win of the season against Marina High at the same time and date.
• Aragon 28, Aptos 27 – The Aptos High Mariners suffered their first loss of the season on Friday night at the hands of the Aragon High Dons in a non-league affair at Trevin Dilfer Field in Aptos.
Marcos Reyes and Bubba Gallardo each scored a touchdown for Aptos (1-1) but it wasn’t enough, as a missed extra point in the fourth quarter gave Aragon enough of an edge to hang on for the win.
Aptos travels to play Placer High on Friday in its preseason finale at 7:30 p.m.
• Greenfield 48, Pajaro Valley 6 – Pajaro Valley High scored its first touchdown of the season but ultimately fell to Greenfield High in a non-league contest at Carl Conelly Stadium on the campus of Cabrillo College in Aptos.
P.V. (0-2) took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter but Greenfield (1-0) exploded for 48 unanswered points to notch the big win.
The Grizzlies travel to Soquel High on Friday to play the Knights at 7 p.m.
