Senior quarterback Sean White ran for a pair of scores, senior running back Cody Paresa added another and the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs started Monterey Bay League Gabilan division play with a 25-14 win over the North Salinas High Vikings on Saturday evening at Rabobank Stadium in Salinas.
The Mustangs’ (3-1, 1-0) defense had a shutout rolling into the fourth quarter before the Vikings (1-3, 0-1) scored a pair of late touchdowns to make the final score a little more respectable.
Junior linebacker Jason Bettencourt and senior defensive back Nick Arroyo each made an interception, Alex Moran forced a fumble and M.V.C. also blocked a punt.
Nick Bautista kicked a 35-yard field goal to put the Mustangs up 18-0 at the half.
M.V.C. next week hosts San Benito High. The Haybalers also started their MBL-G slate with a win, blowing out Alvarez High, 34-7, on Friday night.

St. Francis 17, Marina 0 — The St. Francis High defense hauled in three interceptions and posted its second shutout of the season to lead the Sharks to their inaugural Mission Trail Athletic League Coastal division win on Saturday at Strawberry Stadium in Watsonville.
Cesar Sanchez nailed a field goal to put the Sharks (4-1, 1-0) up 3-0 at the half, as Marina (1-3, 0-1) kept it close until the fourth quarter.
St. Francis senior quarterback Derric Estrada-Haro tossed a touchdown pass to junior running back Andy O’Rourke and junior receiver Andrew Seymour threw a score to senior tight end Cory Parker.
Sharks junior defensive back Devin McLeod had two interceptions and fellow junior defensive back Joseph Ramirez also caught a pick.
St. Francis plays at Greenfield High next week.
Christopher 46, Pajaro Valley 8 — The Pajaro Valley High Grizzlies could not keep pace with the pass-happy Christopher High Cougars in their Monterey Bay League Pacific division loss on Friday night in Gilroy.
P.V. (1-4, 0-1) hosts Monterey High next week at Cabrillo College.
