Monte Vista Christian snapped a five-game losing streak in dramatic fashion on Wednesday, beating Alvarez High, 9-8, on Mattea Romo’s walk-off single in the seventh inning of the team’s Monterey Bay League Pacific division game.
The senior Mustang was 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and a scored run in the victory, which brought M.V.C. to 4-12-1 overall and 2-6 in league action.
Sophomore Jessica Enriquez also went yard, while senior Mariah Gonzalez and junior Samantha Baer doubled. Gonzalez finished the day 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a scored run.
Freshman Alexa Keller was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a scored run.
M.V.C. travels to Seaside High today at 4:30 p.m.

ST. FRANCIS MATCHES RECORD
Sophomore shortstop Ariana Azevedo hit a two-run homer, senior third baseman Anna Noto knocked in three runs and St. Francis High matched the program record for Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League wins in a single season (4) on Tuesday with a 13-7 victory over Soquel High.
Maia Madrigal, Ashley Raich and Audrey Hernandez all had three hits in the win.
APTOS KNOCKS OFF CHAMPS
Aptos High pounded out 16 hits and senior catcher Ashley Del Colletti knocked in three runs, as the Mariners thumped the defending SCCAL champion, San Lorenzo Valley High, 8-3 on Tuesday.
The 7-0 start to league play is the team’s best start since the 2010-11 season. Aptos finished 10-2 that campaign and won a share of the SCCAL title.
Junior first baseman Martina Churchill was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, junior pitcher Julian Cano finished 4-for-4 and senior outfielder Addison Sayers went 2-for-4 with two scored runs.
Sophomore shortstop Shea Garcia doubled.
TOUGH-LUCK ‘CATZ
Watsonville High junior pitcher Jessica Rodriguez allowed only one hit in Tuesday’s 2-0 MBL-Gabilan division loss to Notre Dame-Salinas on the road.
Last year’s MBL-G Pitcher of the Year gave up a two-run homer in the first inning, and Watsonville was unable to respond.
Senior Savanah Quintana tripled and freshman Anastacia Alba doubled for the Wildcatz, which welcome in the Spirits today in a rematch at 4:30 p.m.

Watsonville’s junior catcher Juliana Wilson was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, five RBIs and two scored runs in the Wildcatz’s 8-0 win over Aragon High on Saturday.

Watsonville at San Benito, May 3, 6 p.m. — Watsonville will travel to Hollister to try to even the season series against the defending MBL-G champ on Thursday.
The Wildcatz lost the first meeting at home 2-1.
