Freshman running back Terrence Smith ran for 178 yards and a touchdown but the result was still the same for Cabrillo College.

The Seahawks dropped their fourth straight game, falling 27-16 to Hartnell College on Saturday night in American Golden Coast Conference action in Salinas.

The loss dropped Cabrillo to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Smith’s first quarter touchdown run helped the Seahawks keep pace and a 16-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Nick Martig to freshman receiver Jermaya Omar tied the game at 14-all heading into the half.

Cabrillo grabbed its first lead on a safety midway through the third quarter but Hartnell shutout the Seahawks the rest of the way and scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to pull away.

Martig finished 13 of 31 for 159 yards passing with the one touchdown and an interception. He was sacked six times.

Hartnell (4-3, 3-1) freshman quarterback Devon Daich, a Monte Vista Christian alumnus, was 17 of 28 for 191 yards passing with a touchdown and two interceptions. He also ran for a 17-yard score to ice the game late in the fourth quarter.

Hartnell freshman running back Keishawn Robinson ran 27 times for 121 yards and a touchdown. His 3-yard scoring run put the home team up for good with 5:29 left to play.

Freshman receiver J’uan Campbell made nine catches for 94 yards and hauled in Daich’s lone touchdown toss.

Hartnell freshman defensive back Davon Ferguson scored the game’s first points by returning an interception 38 yards for a touchdown.

Cabrillo matched both of Hartnell’s scores in the first half but couldn’t keep pace over the final 30 minutes.

Elijah Scott and Vitani Harrison made interceptions for Cabrillo.

The Seahawks return home on Oct. 28 to play Reedley College at 7 p.m.
