On June 5, Kim De Serpa kicked off her campaign for 2nd District Supervisor while celebrating her birthday at The Shadowbrook restaurant.
De Serpa will face off against Kristen Brown in the November election.
She hosted the event with more than 100 attendees, after attending several graduations as a trustee for Pajaro Valley Unified School District.
The event began with an introduction by Brett McFadden, former PVUSD Chief Business Officer, who touted De Serpa’s collaborative and leadership skills which helped to increase critical programs and equity across the district by championing facility improvements like the completion of Pajaro Valley High School track and field.
Resident and PVUSD watchdog William Beecher spoke next, touching on De Serpa’s equitable education efforts to help students reach a higher academic potential.
When De Serpa joined the board of trustees, Beecher said, PVUSD sat at12% in statewide comparison to other districts and now is over 50%.
“If you want to see something get done, support Kim,” he said.
In her 14 years on the PVUSD board, De Serpa also pushed for a reinvestment in art and music education after budget cuts during the 2008 economic recession.
De Serpa’s address to the crowd highlighted her community roots, family legacy of political and public service and her expertise in healthcare and social services, which make up 65% of the county’s budget.
She said that 50% of the job of Supervisor is working directly with constituents’ casework, which is her area of expertise.
“One of my goals in running is to help the average person navigate the bureaucracy to remove barriers and get their problem solved,” De Serpa said.
De Serpa emphasized her political priorities, including addressing housing needs, health equity, environmental protection, agriculture production and economic development.

After Kim’s shameful vote to remove campus security (sheriffs) off our local school campuses, just days later, a student was brutally stabbed to death at Aptos High, to the horror of onlooking students and, of course, to the victims family.
You and the other ilk that jumped on the “defund”, anti-law enforcement rhetoric, should have resigned
in shame and remained in the shadows, rather than parade thru the public as leaders who should enjoy
support and election to further “leadership” roles.
You have no place in public leadership.
