Laurie Eddings passed away after a lengthy illness on August 24, 2017, at home with her family by her side. She was 72.
Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 28, 1945, the daughter of Frank and Dorothy Steele. She grew up in New York State and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in art education from N.Y. State University College at Buffalo. She was a resident of Santa Cruz County for the past 45 years. Throughout her life Laurie has worked in education and sales.
She was a childhood literacy volunteer for Pajaro Valley Schools, known by the children as the Story Lady. She was active in the Watsonville Camera Club and won numerous awards for her photography at the Santa Cruz County Fair. She was a docent at Seacliff State Beach and volunteered in the Otter Project at Moss Landing’s Elkhorn Slough Reserve.
Laurie is survived by her husband of forty years, Larry Eddings; three daughters, Jennifer Poodry, Laurie Mohler and Suzanne Manville; son, Mike J. Eddings; four grandsons, Mike D. Eddings, Aaron Fish, Ryan Fish and Nicholas Manville; two granddaughters, Daphne Manville and Shannon Mohler. She is also survived by her sister Diane Steele and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents.
