To the Editor,
Nurses at Watsonville Community Hospital are deeply disappointed that the Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust (PVCHT) decided not to purchase the hospital. While this is certainly not the outcome we had fought for nor anticipated, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the all those who stood with us to advocate for the health and well-being of the people of Watsonville and the Pajaro Valley.
We were deeply gratified to see 350 of our neighbors, coworkers, patients and concerned residents take part in a standing-room-only town hall on July 14 to discuss the future of the hospital. We were encouraged by those we met during our canvassing efforts, who shared our concerns about medical care in our community, and who were willing to speak out for the betterment of our hospital. We are heartened by the support we received from many stakeholders in our community, including city council members, supervisors, health care providers and more. We look forward to strengthening those connections and working together in the future.
The nurses of Watsonville Community Hospital want the public to know we have no intention of standing down, or stepping back. We will continue to advocate fiercely for the highest quality of care for our patients, and for an increase in medical services that will provide the care our community needs and deserves.
As nurses, we are sworn to advocate for our patients, and our patients are the people of Watsonville and Pajaro Valley. We know and we want you to know, that no matter who owns the hospital, Watsonville Community Hospital belongs to us all.
