Lillian A. Hansen was born in Minneota, Minnesota on October 25, 1920. She was the fourth of seven children born to Margaret Jones and Edward Ludwick, and grew up in Tensleep, Wyoming until the Ludwick family moved in 1935 to San Luis Obispo, California. After graduating from San Luis Obispo High School, she met Ray Hansen, who was stationed at the time at Camp San Luis Obispo.
After their marriage in 1941, they lived in Watsonville, while Ray was stationed at Camp McQuade in La Selva Beach. Eventually, they made their home permanently in Watsonville, where their two children, Carl Ray Hansen and Sandy Hansen were born and raised. They started several businesses, until they purchased Krystal Ice Co. in 1949 in Watsonville, which eventually became Krystal Oxygen and Equipment Co. They successfully operated the business until his death on March 27, 1964.
Lillian enjoyed many friends in Watsonville, loved bowling leagues, and gathering in one another’s homes for singing and jamming with their various musical instruments. Mom enjoyed biking on the Pajaro River levee, and creating ceramic gifts for friends and family. She and Ray served the community through Rotary, Soroptimist, the American Red Cross, the Hospital League, and All Saints Episcopal Church.
For the last 25 years, she has lived with her daughter, Sandy in Soquel.
