The Cabrillo College men’s basketball team opened up the season with a pair of wins against College of the Redwoods and Shasta College over the weekend.

Sophomores Linton Acliese and Tynan Velasquez each scored 25 points while freshman Kobe Ordonio added 12 for the Seahawks in an impressive 74-65 Sunday afternoon win win over Shasta.

In Saturday’s 70-57 victory over Redwoods, Velasquez hit eight 3-pointers and finished with 22 points. Ordonio and Acliese each added 17 points.

Cabrillo hosts City College of San Francisco on Friday night at 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S JC VOLLEYBALL

• Cabrillo 3, Chabot 0 – Kylie Kvam had 14 kills, Jolie Samuelson added 12 and the Cabrillo College Seahawks moved closer to their 11th straight conference championship with a 25-9, 26-9, 25-5 win over Chabot College on Friday night.

Cabrillo (23-1, 9-0) can clinch at least a share of the Coast Conference North division title on Wednesday at West Valley College at 6:30 p.m.

MEN’S JC SOCCER

• Cabrillo 6, Chabot 0 – Steve Lopez scored three goals, Walmer Martinez added two and the Cabrillo College Seahawks beat Chabot College in Coast Conference South division action on Friday in Aptos.

Jose Magana made three assists and Omar Ismail scored one and made two assists for Cabrillo (9-5-3, 5-3-2), which plays at Canada College today at 3 p.m.
