Natalia Ackerman had 23 points and eight rebounds, Gabby Giuffre added 18 points and six assists and the Aptos High girls’ basketball team beat North Salinas High, 59-40, on Saturday afternoon to win the North Salinas High Sportsmanship Classic championship.

Hannah Hocom added 12 points and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Aptos (6-1) hosts Notre Dame-San Jose on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

• Watsonville 53, Milpitas 45 – The Watsonville High Wildcatz scored an impressive preseason victory over Milpitas High on Saturday morning behind Savanah Quintana’s 16 points.

Julisa Vega and Evelyn Rios each added 10 points for Watsonville (5-2), which will take its three-game winning streak to King City High tonight at 6:30 p.m.

• MVC 76, Santa Teresa 49 – Mackenzie Tellez scored 32 points and made five steals to lead the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs past Santa Teresa, 76-49, on Friday night.

Lauren De Los Santos had 11 points, four steals and five rebounds for M.V.C. (3-3), which hosts Marina High tonight at 7 p.m.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

• San Mateo 53, St. Francis 34 – Jason Gallo scored 18 points in St. Francis High’s loss to San Mateo High in the championship game of the Balboa Invitational on Saturday.

Gallo, who had 18 points the night before in a 45-35 win over host Balboa, was named to the all-tournament team along with teammate E.J. Kelly.

St. Francis will look to bounce back on Friday at home against Pajaro Valley High at 7 p.m.

WOMEN’S JC BASKETBALL

• Cabrillo 85, Las Positas 61 – Cabrillo College finished off the Monterey Peninsula College Tournament with a blowout win over Las Positas on Saturday afternoon.

Grace Giguiere (25), Teal Maixner (24), Pauli Pappas (14) and Lauren Lacy (11) all scored in double figures for Cabrillo (7-2).

Lacy also made 12 assists for the Seahawks, whom rematch Las Positas on Thursday at home at 5 p.m.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

• St. Francis 3, Seaside 0 – Riley Croghan scored two goals and made an assist for the St. Francis High Sharks in their preseason win over Seaside High on Saturday morning.

Devlyn Gomez also scored and Clare Tershy dished two assists for St. Francis (7-0), which closes out its preseason on Thursday against Pacific Point Christian.

BOYS’ SOCCER

• Watsonville 2, Corona Del Rey 0 – The Watsonville High Wildcatz finished up the Lotto Sport Western Showcase tournament with a 2-0 win over Corona Del Rey, of Ariz., in the seventh-place match on Saturday morning.

Erik Herera scored twice for the Wildcatz (5-2), which host Scotts Valley High on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Herera was named to the all-tournament team by the coaches from the eight-team tournament.

G LEAGUE BASKETBALL

• Santa Cruz 106, Westchester 98 – The Santa Cruz Warriors snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Westchester Knicks on Saturday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.

Quinn Cook, who re-joined Santa Cruz (11-8) on Saturday afternoon, led the Warriors with 30 points and five assists.

Golden State Warriors center Damian Jones, who was on assignment in Santa Cruz on Saturday, scored 20 points to go along with 15 rebounds, six assists and two blocks in less than 35 minutes of action.

Georges Niang scored 19 points and collected five rebounds and five assists, his 11th game this season with an 18-5-5 line.
