David Reckers tossed a no-hit shutout through five innings and Aptos High blanked Carmel High, 4-0, in preseason action on Tuesday in Aptos.

Reckers walked five and struck out seven to pick up the win for Aptos (2-0), which plays at Alvarez High today at 3:30 p.m.

Jacob Mendoza finished off the shutout by allowing one hit over the final two innings. He also went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a scored run at the plate.

Curtis McMullen was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

• MVC 6, Scotts Valley 4 –  Jacob Beardsley was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in Monte Vista Christian’s 6-4 preseason win over Scotts Valley High on Tuesday afternoon.

Ian Koenig doubled and scored three runs for M.V.C., and Garret Laine was 2-for-2 with two scored runs and an RBI.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

• MVC 3, SLV 1 –  Monte Vista Christian started its season with a 25-19, 25-21, 14-25, 25-19 preseason win over San Lorenzo Valley High on Tuesday night.

J.P. Thrasher had nine kills, three aces and 23 assists, and Riland Wagner finished with 20 kills and nine assists for M.V.C. (1-0), which plays at Pajaro Valley High tonight at 6:30 p.m.

• Pajaro Valley 3, Soledad 0 – Dennar Ocampo stuffed the stat sheet with 22 assists, 10 aces and six kills in Pajaro Valley High’s 25-9, 25-14, 25-5 sweep over Soledad High.

Geovanny Barajas had 12 kills and three aces for Pajaro Valley (2-0), which hosts M.V.C. tonight at 6:30 p.m.

HS SOFTBALL

• MVC 1, Scotts Valley 0 – Samantha Baer tossed a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts in Monte Vista Christian’s preseason win over Scotts Valley High on Tuesday.

Baer also hit a double at the plate, and Isabel Hollingsworth scored the game-winning run for M.V.C. (2-1-1), which hosts Watsonville High today at 4 p.m.

JC BASEBALL

• Chabot 10, Cabrillo 1 – Gaige Howard was 4-for-5 with a double in Cabrillo College’s sixth straight loss.

Jake Keaschall had an RBI for Cabrillo, which welcomes in Mission College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
