The Cabrillo College Seahawks started the defense of their Coast Conference Pacific title with an 8-1 win over Gavilan College on Tuesday at Aptos.
Jarius Richards and Sam Burns each had two RBIs and Adam Rossit crossed home plate twice for Cabrillo (10-8, 1-0), which has won four straight.
Alex Trautner picked up the win on the mound, going seven innings and allowing only four hits and one run while striking out four.
The Seahawks travel to Gilroy to play Gavilan again today at 2 p.m.

• Cabrillo 8, West Valley 7 – The Cabrillo College Seahawks scored four runs in the sixth inning to beat West Valley College 8-7 for their first Coast Conference victory on Tuesday in Aptos.
Michaela Decker went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Janessa Carmona, Jamie Sugimoto and Aaliyah Ramirez all knocked in a run.
Jasmine Harrington picked up the win in the circle in a complete game effort.
Cabrillo (5-15, 1-3) hosts San Jose City College today at 3 p.m.

• San Benito 3, MVC 2 – The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs lost their Monterey Bay League Gabilan opener 3-2 to San Benito on Tuesday in Watsonville.
Jackson Collins and Cody Paresa each drove in a run for the Mustangs (3-1, 0-1), who hosts the Balers again today at 3:30 p.m.

• MVC 15, Trinity 2 – Gianna Vanni tossed a five-inning one-hitter and was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple to lead the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs to a 15-2 win over Trinity Christian on Tuesday in non-league play.
Holland Finn was 3-for-4 with two doubles, as the Mustangs (4-3-1) had 17 hits in total.
MVC plays at Santa Cruz today at 4 p.m.
