The Aptos High Mariners, two-time defending Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champions, handed Pacific Collegiate School its first league loss of the season on Wednesday night, beating the Pumas in five games. The scores were 20-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-7.

Kacey Losik had 19 kills, 19 assists, 16 digs and four blocks for Aptos. Jayson Guy added 16 kills, seven blocks and three aces. Christian Segura chimed in with 16 digs and Michael Spinelli finished with 25 assists.

• Gilroy 3, PV 0 – The Pajaro Valley High Grizzlies suffered their first Monterey Bay League Pacific division loss on Thursday night, falling to Gilroy High 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 to create a tie for the top spot in the division.

Ruben Garcia had 14 assists and five kills, Rafael Betancourt added nine kills and three digs and Geovanny Barajas chipped in seven kills and two aces.

Pajaro Valley (14-5, 7-1) travels to Alvarez High on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

HS SOFTBALL

• Watsonville 9, Monterey 0 – Jessica Rodriguez tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out 13 batters in Watsonville High’s 9-0 Monterey Bay League Gabilan division win over Monterey High on Thursday in Monterey.

Juliana Wilson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Angelina Heredia was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Zaira Pena tripled and Mariah Rocha knocked in a pair of runs.

Watsonville (18-1, 6-1) hosts Notre Dame-Salinas on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

• Alisal 5, MVC 4 – The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs late rally fell short in their 5-4 Monterey Bay League Pacific division loss to Alisal High on Thursday.

Jessica Enriquez, Gianna Vanni and Drew Barragan all doubled for MVC, which totaled 10 hits. Enriquez also scored a pair of runs and Barragan had two RBIs.

HS BASEBALL

• St. Francis 14, Scotts Valley 4 – Chase Watkins went 5-for-5 and hit for the cycle — a single, double, triple and home run — with a pair of homers to lead the St. Francis High Sharks past the Scotts Valley High Falcons, 14-4, on Wednesday in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.

Watkins drove in eight runs and scored four times for the Sharks. Ruben Ibarra was 2-for-4 with four scored runs and Joseph Kovacs went 3-for-3 with two doubles. David Talavera scored four times.

• Watsonville 5, NMC 2 – Pitcher Max Ramirez picked up the win and the save on the mound for the Watsonville High Wildcatz in their 5-2 Monterey Bay League Pacific division win over North Monterey County High on Wednesday.

Ramirez left the mound after 5 1-3 innings but returned in the seventh to pick up the final out after reliever Gio Gonzalez exited with injury.

Ryan Rivera was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, Jason Garza finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and JoJo Vargas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Watsonville.

GIRL’S TRACK AND FIELD

• Watsonville 79, Monterey 51 – The Watsonville High Wildcatz improved to 4-0 in Monterey Bay League Pacific division dual meets with a win over the Monterey High Toreadores on Wednesday in Watsonville.

Daniela Salazar, Stephanie Villa and Daniela Castro were all double-winners for the Wildcatz. Salazar won the 400-meters (1 minutes, 2.14 seconds) and the 800 (2:42.87). Villa took the 1,600 (5:49.76) and the 3,200 (12:47.89). Castro, meanwhile, placed first in the shot put (25 feet, 6.5 inches) and discus (94-even).

• PV 74, Monterey 56 – The Pajaro Valley High Grizzlies beat Monterey High on Wednesday in Monterey Bay League Pacific division dual meet action at Watsonville High.

Rubi Genis and Sofia Nolasco both won a pair of events for the Grizzlies, who are 3-1 in MBL-P meets.

Genis was first in the 800 (2:44.99) and high jump (4-7). Nolasco won the shot put (27-2) and the discus (79-11).

• Gilroy 81, MVC 41 – The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs lost to the Gilroy High Mustangs in Monterey Bay League Pacific division dual meet action on Thursday.

Delaney Ezeji-Okoye won the pole vault (10-even) and 200 (28.38).

• Gilroy 81, MVC 41 – Sarah Delgado won the 800 (2:28.94) and helped North Monterey County High’s 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams take first in the Condors’ Monterey Bay League Gabilan division loss to North Salinas High on Wednesday.

• Watsonville 82, Monterey 52 – Issac Ruiz was a triple winner in the Watsonville High Wildcatz’s Monterey Bay League Pacific division dual meet victory over Monterey High on Wednesday.

Ruiz won the 800 (2:11.87), 1,600 (4:45.81) and 3,200 (10:48.37).

Pedro Alcantara picked up wins in the shot put (42-3) and discus (129-1).

• Monterey 85, PV 27 – Luis Leonor recorded Pajaro Valley High’s lone win in the Grizzlies’ Monterey Bay League Pacific division dual meet loss against Monterey High on Wednesday in Watsonville.

Leonor won the pole vault (8-6).

• Gilroy 77, MVC 59 – Darren Selck won a pair of events for the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs in their first Monterey Bay League Pacific division loss to Gilroy High on Thursday.

Selck cleared 5-8 in the high jump and 20-5 — a personal record — in the long jump. He also helped the 4×100 relay team, which also included James Castillo, David Weng and Kingsley Liu, take first with a time of 45.57.

• NS 84, NMC 52 – Agustin Saldivar won the 800 (2:09.1) and 1,600 (4:46.41) in the North Monterey County High Condors’ Monterey Bay League Gabilan division loss to North Salinas High on Wednesday.
