Jack Hegerle and Blake Welle scored four goals apiece, goalie Matthew Quinn made several clutch saves and the Aptos High Mariners clinched the Mission Trail Athletic League’s “A”-division title with an 11-5 win over Scotts Valley High on Wednesday in Scotts Valley.

It is the Mariners’ first league title since the 2014 season.

Seniors Koya Oki and twin brothers Darian and Joseph Gutierrez-Lee continued their stout defensive play, which has powered the Mariners’ (11-2, 10-2) 10-game win streak.

Quinn’s brilliance in goal was also a boon for Aptos.

“He made numerous saves today, including several point-blank rejections,” Aptos head coach David Rosenow wrote in an email. “He also helped us clear the ball with sound decisions and accurate passes.”

Aptos travels to Palma High, the undefeated MTAL “B”-division champion, on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
