E.J. Kelly and Paul Kane finished 1-2 in Thursday’s Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet wins against Soquel High and Mt. Madonna at Pinto Lake County Park.

Kelly completed the 2.95-mile course in 16 minutes, 53 seconds and Kane followed closely at 17:14. James T. Young was fifth (18:43), Brandon George finished eighth (19:44) and Jason Gallo completed the Sharks’ scoring five in 10th (19:58).

Mt. Madonna’s Noah Kaplan took sixth (18:52) overall.

• Aptos 20, SLV 37; Aptos 16; Santa Cruz 43 -The Aptos High Mariners picked up a pair of wins in an important Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet against San Lorenzo Valley High and Santa Cruz High on Thursday in Felton.

Jorge Benitez finished second overall behind S.L.V.’s Chris Anderson at 16 minutes, 39 seconds. Koya Oki (16:48), Luis Garcia (16:55) and Matthew Quinn (17:14) also finished in the top five.

GIRL’S CROSS COUNTRY

• Soquel 24, St. Francis 31 – The St. Francis High Sharks came up short in Thursday’s Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet against Soquel High at Pinto Lake County Park.

Camryn Ryan and Olivia Burke finished third (20 minutes, 55 seconds) and fourth (22:35), while Angelika Castro (23:02) was sixth and Natalie Henn was eighth (24:53).

• Santa Cruz 19, Aptos 36; Aptos 26, SLV 32 – The Aptos High Mariners recorded a win against San Lorenzo Valley High and suffered a loss to the Santa Cruz High Cardinals on Thursday in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League dual meet action in Felton.

Mariners’ senior Marea Zlatunich took second overall behind Santa Cruz High’s Mari Friedman. Both runners beat the old 5,000-meter course record of 18 minutes, 31 seconds. Friedman finished in 17:24 and Zlatunich cross the finish line in 18:21.

GIRL’S GOLF

• Aptos 169, SLV 190 – Gianna Marinshaw fired a 39 to earn medalist honors in Thursday’s Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League win over San Lorenzo Valley High Cougars at Seascape Golf Club in Aptos.

Megan Eldredge (40), Italia Riccabona (45) and Sam Castaneda (45) also scored for undefeated Aptos (3-0, 3-0).

The Mariners host Scotts Valley High on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

GIRL’S  VOLLEYBALL

• St. Francis 3, SLV 0 – The St. Francis High Sharks swept the San Lorenzo Valley High 25-14, 25-15, 25-12 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play on Thursday night.

Tanya Gallo had five aces in the victory for the Sharks (11-5, 2-4), which play in the Mt. Madonna tournament today.

• San Benito 3, MVC 2 – The Monte Vista Christian Mustangs nearly knocked off the Monterey Bay League Gabilan division leading San Benito High Haybalers on Thursday in a 22-25, 25-19, 25-14, 22-25, 15-4 loss.

Mattea Romo had 13 kills and 19 digs, Abbey Lynch finished with eight kills, three blocks and 10 digs and Allie Tillery chimed in with seven kills and three rejections for MVC (8-7, 3-2), which hosts Sacred Heart Prep today at 2:30 p.m.

GIRL’S TENNIS

• St. Francis 7, Harbor 0 – The St. Francis High Sharks shutout the Harbor High Pirates on Thursday in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.

Gabi Gutierrez, Sophia Fron and Ciella Zivanovick all won their singles matches in sweeps. The doubles teams of Emily Wells and Avery Groghan and Madeline Kehoe and Kayli Galster also won their matches in sweeps.

• MVC 4, Alvarez 3 – Sarah Kashani, Grace Sumares and Kayleigh Bajarin all swept their singles match for Monte Vista Christian in the Mustangs’ Monterey Bay League Gabilan division win on Thursday.

The doubles team of Kelly Lei and Christy Zhu also won their match for MVC, which also edged St. Francis High on Wednesday in non-league action.
