Aptos senior hurler Logan Brantley extended his season for one more week after he advanced to the Central Coast Section Track and Field Championships set for Saturday evening at Gilroy High School. 

The Mariners’ standout athlete completed throws of 56 feet,1-1/2 inches and 175-10 in the shot put and discus, respectively, in the preliminary round on May 16 also at Gilroy High.

Watsonville junior Lisandro Pantoja (154-2) also advanced to the discus finals, while teammate senior Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar leaped his way into the triple jump championship with a qualifying mark of 44-7 1/4.

Pajaro Valley senior Izaak Ocampo and Aptos senior Casey MacConnell each advanced to the long jump finals. Ocampo finished with a mark of 22-1 1/4, while MacConnell had a qualifying jump of 21-8 1/4.

Scotts Valley junior Aaron Weiss and Monte Vista Christian junior Conor Gilliam each advanced in the 800-meters with qualifying marks of 1 minute, 54.95 seconds and 1:57.94, respectively.

Aptos sophomore Sam Hansen (4:16.73) and junior Brady Bliesner (4:19.50) each qualified for the 1600 finals. The Mariners’ 4×800 relay team also made the cut after it finished in 8:11.45.

On the girls side, Scotts Valley junior Ava Decleve had the fastest qualifying mark of 2:12.70 in the 800-meters. Monte Vista Christian senior Kylie Brunelli (11:09.14) advanced to the 3200 finals, while San Lorenzo Valley senior Orea Pollock advanced in the high jump championship with a mark of 5 feet. 

The field events are scheduled to begin at 3pm, while track events are set for 4:45pm. The top three finishers in each event automatically qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation State Meet at Buchanan High School in Clovis on May 30-31.
