Ramon Castillo-Ruiz (Watsonville Police)

A Watsonville man was arrested Thursday morning on allegations of sexual abuse of a minor at a Watsonville daycare facility.

Ramon Castillo-Ruiz, 28, was charged with lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14, and possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, jail records showed.

The 11-year-old victim recently came forward and reported the abuse. Watsonville Police detectives learned that the Castillo-Ruiz molested the victim multiple times when she was between 4 and 6 years old and attended the daycare. At the time of the abuse, the suspect lived at a home on the 400 block of Rogge Street where the daycare operated, said Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido.

Police did not name the daycare facility.

Detectives, with help from the Santa Cruz County Anti-Crime Team, served a search warrant at the daycare early Thursday morning, where they found several firearms and ammunition in the suspect’s room.

Castillo-Ruiz was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and possession of a controlled substance. Detectives believe there may be additional victims.

Additionally, WPD is working with investigators from the California Department of Social Services, which oversees licensed daycares in the state.

“We have also been in contact with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, as the suspect has a pending case for federal charges involving firearms,” Pulido said.

  1. Firing squad with his own firearms is the only solution I see. Anyone who harms children should have no place in society.

  2. Sickening! There is a special place for such people. And ‘yes’ I believe there is definitely more victims! People like that….the abuse either runs in his family, probably abused himself never seeking help only to turn into a sick abuser himself. Whoever is running that daycare had to have known something? A predator like that most of all predators that rape and molest children, show or talk their sick tendencies in sum form to people around them. Worst part is that those witnesses always believe that maybe their making more of something than what they saw, or afraid or just disgustingly dismiss it! Authorities need to look very closely at “all the tenants” in that dwelling – actions, people coming and going from that place. With all that ammo and guns there’s more going on there aside from what you’ve discovered. I can almost be sure of that!
