A Santa Cruz man known for coaching Pop Warner football in Santa Cruz was arrested Tuesday for an alleged sexual assault involving a minor.

Christopher John Weekes, 32, was charged with lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14, oral copulation with a minor and forcible penetration with a foreign object, all felonies. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, deputies recently received a report of a sexual assault involving a minor that occurred within the past two months. 

Reached by phone, Santa Cruz Pop Warner President Ernie Camacho sent a statement saying that Weekes has been suspended indefinitely from the organization.

“We care about the integrity of our program and the protection of our kids,” he said.

According to his social media profiles, Weekes is a Soquel High School graduate who lives in Santa Cruz.
