Man caught burglarizing Watsonville business

WATSONVILLE—A Watsonville man was arrested late Tuesday night after he was caught burglarizing a business on Airport Boulevard.

Gabriel Soto-Gonzalez, 41, was charged with burglary, vehicle theft and providing false ID to police. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail, jail records showed.

According to Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido, the owner of an auto body shop on the 100 block of Airport Boulevard was monitoring his surveillance cameras when he saw a man jump the fence onto his property.

Officers arrived quickly and surrounded the business. About a minute later, Soto-Gonzalez climbed back over the fence and right into the hands of waiting officers, Pulido said.

Investigators believe that Soto-Gonzalez broke into a rear shop building and rummaged through it and a few cars parked in the shop’s yard.

He also had an outstanding felony warrant for vehicle theft.
