WATSONVILLE — A Watsonville man was arrested Thursday after he was found to be in possession of illegal guns, ammunition and high-capacity magazines.
Jesus Chavez, 31, was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an illegal assault weapon, illegal possession of ammunition, criminal storage of a firearm and possession of high-capacity firearms. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
According to Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Cleveland, deputies from the Gang Enforcement Team served a search warrant for firearms and stolen vehicles at a residence located on the 100 block of Roache Road in Watsonville at about 6:45 p.m.
Deputies found an illegal short-barreled AR15 rifle, three handguns, high capacity magazines, ammunition, and several stolen vehicles, Cleveland said.
Chavez is prohibited from possessing weapons, Cleveland said.
