Man fleeing police crashes car in Watsonville Fire station parking lot

WATSONVILLE—A 60-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after leading officers on a brief car chase and then crashing into several parked dilapidated vehicles at Watsonville Fire Station 2 on Airport Boulevard.

Watsonville Police spokeswoman Michelle Pulido said officers around 1pm got reports of a hit-and-run crash involving a white car on Martinelli Street.

The driver, later identified as Curt Wilcox, left the scene of the crash and continued to drive with a flat tire, Pulido said. Officers spotted Wilcox driving against traffic and attempted to pull him over.

Wilcox, driving a Chrysler Sebring, refused to stop and eventually drove into the fire department’s parking lot where he rammed his car into two unoccupied parked cars.

The vehicles Wilcox struck are junked cars used by firefighters in rescue training exercises.

“We are still working to determine if Wilcox was driving under the influence,” Pulido said.
