The man who was shot when he reportedly charged at an officer with a knife after threatening to kill his 3-year-old stepdaughter has been released from the hospital, and booked into Santa Cruz County Jail without bail.

Joshua Gonzalez, 25, now faces murder charges for killing 25-year-old Lizbeth Arceo Sedano, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office reported.

He also faces charges by the Watsonville Police Department for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, child abuse and trying to prevent an officer from performing their duty.

“Our sincerest condolences are with Lizbeth’s family and child as they navigate this tragic time,” WPD said in a Facebook post.
Gonzalez’s arraignment is expected to be held early next week

On Aug. 3 just after 9pm, Gonzalez was outside of the Watsonville Police Department when he called the dispatch center, stating he was armed with a knife and was going to hurt the three-year-old child.

When the first officer arrived on the scene, he stepped out of his patrol car and ordered Gonzalez to drop the knife he was holding. Gonzalez ignored the commands and charged at the Officer, who opened fire. Gonzalez was taken to an out-of-county trauma center for his injuries.

He is expected to be arraigned next week.

The Watsonville Police Department has not yet named the officer involved in the shooting.

  2. Too bad the death penalty is so hard to enforce.
Now the taxpayer will be paying for a lifetime of food, medical, etc…
for this guy, unless he gets parolled in a few years, which is likely to
happen with the current political state of affairs..
