SANTA CRUZ — A man was injured by a gunshot to the chest Saturday morning in Live Oak near the Santa Cruz Flea Market.
Lt. Mitch Medina of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said deputies got reports of the shooting just before 10 a.m. on the 2200 block of Soquel Drive. The victim self-transported to Dominican Hospital where he was contacted by deputies.
“The victim was shot at least one time in the upper torso where he sustained non-life-threatening wounds. He was treated and later released from the hospital,” Medina said.
During the investigation it was determined that the lone suspect and victim are known to each other.
“The suspect was not located and is currently outstanding; however, we believe this to be an isolated event and that this suspect does not pose a threat to the community,” Medina said.
The Sheriff’s Office was joined by officers from the California Highway Patrol in shutting down Soquel Drive and the highly popular Santa Cruz Flea Market for several hours. Investigators were able to locate several bullet shell casings at the shooting scene.
Detectives are currently following up on leads which include viewing surveillance footage from the area.
