WATSONVILLE — A 45-year-old Watsonville man was seriously injured early Tuesday when a car struck him on his bicycle.
Watsonville Police Master Officer Burton Iles said that at 5:05 a.m. officers were dispatched to a report of an injury traffic collision on Lee Road north of West Beach Street.
The investigation revealed that the collision involved a vehicle colliding with a bicyclist from the rear during darkness.
Emergency medical aid was provided to the bicyclist who was taken by air ambulance to a Bay Area Trauma Center.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the bicyclist was in critical condition, Iles said, and was being transferred to the Intensive Care Unit.
The collision is still under investigation.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected in the collision. Several witnesses were contacted at the scene of the collision.
