An 84-year-old Bay Village resident was injured Tuesday morning after he was struck by a man on an electric bike on the Salsipudes Creek levee.

Michelle Pulido of Watsonville Police said the victim was struck on a wide pedestrian path around 10:45am. The suspect riding the e-bike then fled eastbound, leaving the victim crumpled on the asphalt.

Witnesses rushed to his aid and helped guide Watsonville Fire, paramedics and Watsonville Police into the scene. Pulido said police did not locate a suspect who was described as a white male in his 60s wearing a red and white checkered shirt on a black e-bike. Relatives of the victim said Felipe was on his routine morning walk along the levee and were visibly stunned by the incident.

It’s not clear whether the e-bike rider was allowed to be on the trail. Such rules depend on the size of the bike and the power of the motor, Pulido said.
